In VR, space is a narrative

The difference between touring a virtual home and telling a story is smaller than we think.

When I design a VR experience, my first question isn't technical: What should the user feel when they walk through the door?

Space is a stage

In cinema, the camera chooses where we look. In VR, that choice passes to the user. The designer's job is to gently guide that gaze with light, sound and layout.

A good virtual space doesn't tell users what to do; it makes them feel where to look.

Narrative in real estate

A property listing usually reads like a list: square metres, rooms, floor. But a home is the window where morning light comes in and the corner where evenings are spent. VR is a chance to turn the list into a scene.
